The Australian government requested a meeting with the gaming platform Roblox against the backdrop of reports of children being lured and exposed to shocking content on the platform, at a time when a regulatory body said it would test whether the company had fulfilled its obligations related to protecting children.

According to Reuters, Communications Minister Annika Wells said she had sent a letter to the US-listed technology company in which she expressed grave concern over reports that children were being targeted by dangerous people and exposed to harmful materials.
She added in a statement that reports of children being exposed to violent and shocking content on Roblox, and the platform being actively used by people to lure young people, are horrific, stressing that parents and children in Australia expect a higher level of responsibility from Roblox.
This statement reflects a cooling relationship between Australia and the famous gaming platform, which in 2025 launched an age verification system aimed at restricting online conversations within narrow age ranges and preventing the luring of children.
The Australian Electronic Safety Commissioner welcomed this step and recommended that Roblox not be included in the social media ban that took effect in December.
The commissioner said her office will test age-based safety features in Roblox, noting that it may seek to impose fines of up to 49.5 million Australian dollars if it is proven that the platform did not comply with the country’s online child protection laws.
Cyber Safety Commissioner Julie Inman-Grant added that there remains significant concern about ongoing reports of children being exploited on the Roblox service and exposed to harmful materials.
