The Israeli occupation army announced that a soldier performing compulsory military service committed suicide yesterday, Monday, at its base in southern occupied Palestine.

The army statement added that the military police have begun an investigation, and that its results will be reviewed by the Military Prosecutor’s Office.

Last year, 22 compulsory service soldiers committed suicide, the highest number in 15 years.

In another context, Muhammad Mansour, spokesman for the Egyptian Committee in Gaza, confirmed that the Committee continues its work on a daily basis in the Strip, in cooperation with the Red Crescent and international institutions, to provide relief support and basic services to the people affected by the Israeli bombing.

Mansour indicated, during television statements, that the committee has prepared modern camps that can withstand harsh weather conditions and accommodate more than 35,000 families, in addition to the opening of the Madinat al-Zahraa camp, which includes 900 tents, a water well, medical clinics, and educational spaces.

He explained that the committee dug new water wells to compensate for what was destroyed by the occupation, and opened a school in Khams camp with 9 classrooms. It also continues to distribute winter clothes and food parcels to more than 30,000 families, opens roads and supports residents in hard-to-reach areas.
