Dr. Ahmed Al-Ansari, Governor of Fayoum, Dr. Salama Gomaa Dawoud, President of Al-Azhar University, and Dr. Mohamed Al-Tuni, Deputy Governor, laid the foundation stone for the Al-Azhar University branch in Fayoum, in the Dar Al-Ramad area in Fayoum, on an area of approximately 30 thousand square meters.

During the visit, the University President affirmed his great pleasure in laying the foundation stone for this new scientific edifice, which includes a number of colleges, noting that it will be an addition to the development of the Fayoum Governorate and serving students from the governorate and other governorates. He also extended his thanks to Dr. Ahmed Al-Ansari, Governor of Fayoum, for the warm reception and hospitality, and his full support for the new branch.
The University President conveyed the greetings of the Grand Imam, Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Sheikh of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, and his hope that this branch would be an addition to the university, enlightening the world and spreading knowledge.
He explained that the first phase will witness the opening of two colleges, one of which is the College of Veterinary Medicine to meet the needs of the agricultural and livestock governorate, and the other is the College of Science and Technology, which is the first specific college to be opened for the first time at Al-Azhar University, with priority being given to the people of Fayoum, then coordination will be opened for the rest of the governorates of the Republic.
Dr. Salama Dawoud pointed out that the university has witnessed a major development boom, with the number of its colleges reaching 107 across all governorates of Egypt, with the exception of the Suez and Ismailia governorates because they are close to the Port Said governorate branch. Two veterinary medicine colleges were also opened this year in Hosh Issa in Beheira Governorate and Assiut Governorate, in addition to two artificial intelligence colleges in Cairo for boys and girls, to meet the requirements of the times and the needs of society.
The President of Al-Azhar University stressed the university’s distinction in integrating worldly sciences and religious sciences side by side, pointing out that Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, under the leadership of the Grand Imam Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, is the first reference for religious sciences in the world, and attracts more than 70,000 students from more than 120 countries in the pre-university and university education stages.
He stressed the importance of science and its role in building, reconstruction and reform, pointing out that Fayoum Governorate has a long history in the renaissance of Al-Azhar, as great scholars such as Sheikh Ibrahim Al-Fayoumi, the former Sheikh of Al-Azhar, emerged from it.
He stressed that Al-Azhar education serves the nation and the world, and that there is future cooperation between Al-Azhar University and Fayoum University in various development fields, to meet the governorate’s needs for new colleges and educational programs to support industrial zones.
