Details of removing Alaa Abdel Fattah’s name from the travel ban lists

The grievance came regarding the travel ban decision issued in Case No. 1356 of 2019 State Security. The grievance submitted to the Attorney General stated that Alaa Abdel Fattah had gone to Cairo International Airport Terminal 3 on Tuesday morning, October 11, 2025, to travel to London on board EgyptAir flight No. MS777.

The grievance explained that Alaa Abdel Fattah was carrying a one-way ticket from Cairo Airport (3) to London Airport (2) on October 11, 2025, and a return ticket from London Airport (2) to Cairo Airport (3) on November 24, 2025, with ticket number 0772450458837, but he was surprised that he was prevented from traveling.

The defense indicated that the passport authorities verbally notified Alaa Abdel Fattah of the existence of a decision issued by the Public Prosecutor banning him from travel, without showing him a copy of the decision or informing him of its reasons, duration, or the party that issued it.

The grievance added that the complainant was not notified of the decision in a legal manner, nor did he receive a copy of it, which prevented him from exercising his right to file a grievance or appeal it at the time, in violation of the text of Article (62) of the Constitution, which guarantees freedom of movement and not preventing the citizen from leaving the country except by a reasoned judicial order and for a specific period.

In its original grievance, the defense requested the cancellation of the travel ban issued against the backdrop of the ongoing investigations in Case No. 1356 of 2019 State Security, and that Alaa Abdel Fattah be able to exercise his right to travel and move freely, while notifying the relevant authorities to remove his name from the lists of those banned from travel immediately.

The defense also requested, as a precaution, to set the nearest session before the competent department to consider the grievance against the travel ban decision. The grievance was signed by lawyers Khaled Ali, the lawyer at cassation, and Mohamed Fathi, the lawyer at the High Court of Appeal, and the State Council.
