Al-Orabi explained, during a television intervention, that the Egyptian state is moving according to a clear strategy in dealing with Ethiopia and the Nile Basin countries, based on the principle of cooperation for development without harming Egypt’s historical rights, noting that President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has set governing determinants for dealing with Africa in general and the Nile Basin countries in particular.

He added that Egyptian policy is not based on confrontation, but rather on indirect approach and the theory of containment, stressing that Egypt is leading the path of development in Africa, citing the Egyptian role in a number of development projects in the basin countries, such as the Nyerere Dam in Tanzania.

Ambassador Mohamed Al-Orabi stressed that compromising Egypt’s share of water is a red line that the Egyptian state will not accept under any circumstances, pointing out that Cairo is making extensive diplomatic efforts to preserve its water security in the present and future.

He pointed out that the Egyptian messages have two main parts: The first is to open an umbrella of cooperation with the Nile Basin countries, while the second part concerns Ethiopia directly with regard to the dam file, stressing that these messages will have a regional and international resonance, and may represent a real pressure factor on the Ethiopian side.

Regarding the situation in Sudan, Ambassador Al-Orabi described the situation there as dangerous, explaining that the red lines set by Egypt stem from the suffering of the Sudanese people, in addition to concerns related to Egyptian national security in the event of continued chaos and instability.

He stressed that these red lines will be the basis for any political process aimed at resolving the crisis, stressing that military action will not lead to a solution, and that what is required is an urgent humanitarian truce followed by an organized political path with regional and international support, with an active role for Egypt in ending the crisis and stopping the bloodshed.
