Representative Khaled Tantawi, a member of the House of Representatives, praised the government’s assertion that there is no intention to raise the prices of basic goods and services, especially Supply goods And sugar and petroleum products, for a full year, considering that this trend reflects a clear commitment to President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s mandates regarding the need to reduce the living burdens on citizens, especially in light of the current economic challenges.

In a statement he issued today, Tantawi stressed that stabilizing prices represents a positive and important step, but at the same time he stressed that the real bet lies in tightening control over the markets, and resolutely confronting any attempts to exploit citizens through unjustified increases in prices and prosecuting monopolists. He called on the government to implement what it promised not to raise prices, presenting 5 implementable proposals aimed at imposing strict control on markets and prices, and striking with an iron fist anyone who violates the law, which are:
1. Forming central operations rooms in the governorates that operate around the clock to receive citizens’ complaints about any unjustified increases in prices, and deal with them immediately.
2. Intensifying sudden oversight campaigns by executive agencies and consumer protection and supply agencies, without prior notice, to ensure seriousness of oversight.
3. Mandatory and clear announcement of basic commodity prices within all commercial outlets, with deterrent penalties imposed on anyone who violates this.
4. Severe legal penalties on monopolists and price manipulators, reaching the immediate closure of violating shops and withdrawal of licenses.
5. Expansion of government sales outlets and permanent exhibitions at reduced prices, which creates a balance in the market and prevents monopoly.

Representative Khaled Tantawi asked Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, to issue decisive and clear mandates to all governors across the republic, regarding the necessity of launching intense and sudden campaigns on the markets, and implementing the law with all force and firmness without exception or leniency, stressing that fixing prices without strict control will not achieve the desired goal, stressing that the state possesses the legal and executive tools capable of controlling the markets, and that the current stage requires decisive decisions that protect the citizen from the greed of some, and affirms that the law is above all, The interest of the citizen comes at the forefront of the state’s priorities.
