Russian authorities announced that a huge AN-22 military transport plane had crashed in the Ivanovo region in central Russia, carrying seven crew members on board.
According to what was reported by Reuters, the plane fell while carrying out a mission, while emergency teams began search and rescue operations at the accident site. Official details have not yet been announced about the causes of the crash or the fate of the crew members.
It is noteworthy that the AN-22 is one of the largest military transport aircraft in the world, and is used to transport heavy equipment and soldiers. It has been in service since the 1960s.
The Russian authorities confirmed the opening of an urgent investigation to determine the circumstances of the accident, amid anticipation for an official statement from the Russian Ministry of Defense clarifying the initial results.
