The launch of the Xiaomi 17 Ultra phone is approaching within a few days, however numerous leaks and images have already begun to appear on the Chinese Weibo platform, especially those related to the camera.
Screenshots from the camera application show Xiaomi’s cooperation with Leica to provide a true optical zoom lens with a variable aperture, similar to what Sony presented in the Xperia 1 VII, but relying here on a huge 200-megapixel sensor.
Despite the importance of the new telephoto lens, it was not the focus of the question and answer session in which Xiaomi President Lu Weiping participated, which was broadcast today on Weibo.
During the session, he confirmed that the phone will witness a noticeable increase in price within China, not only due to the rise in memory prices, but also as a result of the high cost of the new camera components, most notably a larger periscope unit with Leica APO lenses, compared to those used in the Xiaomi 15 Ultra.

He also pointed out that the new 1-inch Omnivision OV50X main sensor offers significant improvements, most notably a higher dynamic range thanks to LOFIC technology, superior to the previous generation sensor.
On the other hand, an official photo taken with the main camera with a focal length of 23 mm revealed the phone’s capabilities, with photography settings that included ISO 64, a shutter speed of 1/50 seconds, and a lens aperture of f/1.67.
As usual with Leica, Xiaomi did not exaggerate in lightening the dark areas. The image also shows the approximate design of the phone, with green color likely being available among the color options.
