The National Food Safety Authority’s media center issued its 13th weekly report for the year 2026, for the period from April 4 to 10, 2026, which included many different activities as follows:

Within the framework of implementing the Authority’s plan to enhance oversight of the food manufacturing sector and local and international trading, the General Administration of Factory Control carried out 93 inspection visits, aimed at assessing the extent of food establishments’ compliance with quality and food safety requirements, and 15 establishments were registered during the past week.

In the same supervisory context, the Department of Supervision of Stations and Packing Centers carried out 58 examination and inspection visits in the governorates of Qalyubia, Sharkia, Alexandria, Beheira and Fayoum. The administration also issued 4,033 export permits for agricultural crops to 2,017 exporting companies.

According to the report of the General Administration of both Exports and Imports at the Authority, the number of exported food consignments reached about 5,510 food consignments, with a total of 266 thousand tons, issued by 1,515 exporting companies. These consignments included about 762 types of food products, including fruits, vegetables, tubers, flour and grain products, preparations of vegetables and fruits, and various food products.

The number of types of exported fruits reached 40, with total quantities reaching 100,000 tons. During the past week, citrus fruits also topped the list of exported fruits with a total of 78,000 tons, followed by strawberries with about 16,000 tons, then various fruits with a total of 6,000 tons.

The number of exported vegetables reached 46, with total quantities reaching 70,000 tons. Potatoes topped the list of Egyptian vegetables exported last week as well, with a total of 36,000 tons, followed by sweet potatoes, with a total of 7,000 tons, and then onions, with a total of 6,000 tons.

The total number of countries importing from Egypt during the past week reached 192 countries, as the largest countries receiving Egyptian food exports included Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria, the Netherlands and Jordan.

With regard to export ports, Safaga Port ranked first in the number of food consignments exported from it during the past week, with a total of 1,115 consignments, followed by Alexandria Port, with a total of 900 consignments, and then Damietta Port, with a total of 830 consignments.

Within the framework of supporting food exports, last week the Authority issued 1,315 health certificates for export, in accordance with the approved mechanism, ensuring that products comply with safety requirements and enhancing international markets’ confidence in Egyptian exports.

The number of food consignments received into the country reached about 1,815 consignments, with a total quantity estimated at 450,000 tons, imported by 870 companies. The imported items varied to include wheat, soybeans, and various oils, while America topped the list of countries exporting to Egypt during the past week, followed by Russia, Ukraine, Indonesia, and Brazil, out of a total of 83 countries that exported food products to the Egyptian market.

Alexandria Port continues to occupy first place in terms of the number of food consignments received, with a total of 675 consignments, followed by Cairo Air Port in second place with a total of 300 consignments, then Damietta Port with a total of 241 consignments.

With regard to customs releases, 1,238 food consignments were released under reservation (temporary release), while the number of consignments that were released within the rapid release system reached 586 consignments. In the context of implementing the decisions of the Grievances Committee, case reports were issued for 60 consignments, and with regard to import activity, import licenses were issued to 114 importers during the same period.

During the past week, the Authority’s General Administration for Control of Storage Facilities and Strategic Commodities carried out 61 seizure missions, including visits to 94 food facilities, to monitor compliance with international requirements and standards, ensuring safe and healthy food reaches the Egyptian consumer.

204 incoming food consignments were also seized, in addition to continuing to seize 24 laboratory-rejected consignments, within the framework of strengthening the system of control over food imports and protecting consumer health.

Regarding storage capacity and preventing food consignments from accumulating in Egyptian ports, the authority re-exported 8 rejected consignments, which contributes to ensuring the smooth movement of imports and achieving the highest levels of health protection for citizens.

As part of the efforts of the National Food Safety Authority to follow up on strategic commodities and ensure their safety and quality, the administration carried out a number of inspection visits to storage sites for wheat, rice mills, and bakery facilities, including 2 municipal bakeries, 3 tourist bakeries, and 1 French bakery, in order to ensure compliance with the approved requirements and standards and ensure the arrival of safe and consumable products.

During the past week, the National Food Safety Authority received 97 complaints received from multiple parties, including the unified government complaints system in the Council of Ministers, the Consumer Protection Agency, the Authority’s electronic website and event-based surveillance, in addition to complaints submitted directly to the Authority.
A number of complaints have been addressed, while the remaining complaints are currently being examined to complete the necessary procedures.

Regarding the activities of the Commercial Chain Supervision Department, 51 oversight missions were implemented targeting branches of commercial chain establishments in a number of governorates, to verify the extent of their compliance with food safety requirements.

The General Administration for Special Food Registration and Licensing continued its efforts to support the food trading system, as during the past week, 90 food supplement products were registered, 326 new products were examined, 1 supervisory mission was implemented, and 18 companies operating in this sector were approved, in addition to issuing 11 free sale certificates and 49 advertising approvals.

In a related context, last week witnessed the registration of 220 establishments of public stores with food activity, while the Public Stores Registration and Licensing Department conducted 378 inspections, while 237 establishments responded, and the total number of registered establishments rose to 75,617 establishments of public stores.
