In a video clip that she posted on her official account on the TikTok application, Witherspoon explained that during the past hours, she had monitored intense activity of fraudsters using her name and image to communicate with the public via private messages, and trying to build personal relationships for the purpose of obtaining sensitive information or arranging fake meetings.
Witherspoon said that what is happening is very disturbing and sad, stressing that she will not communicate with anyone to request money or personal information or to schedule meetings, calling on her followers to always ensure that the accounts they interact with bear the official authentication mark.
She added that this phenomenon is not limited to her only, but also affects a large number of celebrities, but its expansion recently has become a cause for concern, calling on everyone to be careful and not to be led into any suspicious communication.
Reese Witherspoon thus joins a list of Hollywood stars who have issued similar warnings recently, including Helen Mirren, Sandra Bullock, Johnny Depp, and Tom Hanks, in light of the increase in electronic fraud crimes by impersonating public figures.
