Alaa Farouk, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, received a report from Dr. Ahmed Essam, Chairman of the Agricultural Crops Seed Committee, in which he reviewed the committee’s most prominent efforts and work during the year 2025, which witnessed a boom in seed circulation and technical approvals, in a way that serves the state’s strategy to enhance food security.
According to the report, during 2025, the committee held about 51 meetings, during which it issued about 2,698 approvals, varying between exports and imports, as it opened export prospects for about 32.3 thousand tons of field crop seeds and other crops, including vegetables, medicinal and aromatic plants, and fruits, in addition to 1.2 million Mini Tupper potato seed tubers, and 7.7 million vegetable seed seeds, 29.6 million seedlings, fruit cuttings, and ornamental plants, in addition to 410 date palm meristems, through 980 export approvals issued during the year, which confirms international confidence in the quality of seeds and seedlings produced in Egypt.
During the same year, the committee issued 1,718 import approvals to meet needs, which included approval to import about 6,072 tons of various crops, 16.2 million, 277 thousand and 625 high-yielding Mini Tupper potato seed tubers, 7.5 billion seeds of vegetable and field crops, in addition to about 6 million seedlings, cuttings, onions, springs (vegetables, fruits, ornamentals), and 6,200 Meristem bananas, 52,750 date palm shoots of distinct varieties, 87,974 units (sugar beets, fodder beets, sunflowers).

The report revealed the implementation of 198 technical inspections, including experimental stations, tissue culture laboratories, and import inspections for the purpose of re-export, as well as for the purpose of private use, in order to ensure that all parties adhere to technical standards and regulating ministerial decisions, in a way that protects Egyptian agricultural wealth.
For his part, Alaa Farouk, Minister of Agriculture, confirmed that the ministry is currently working according to an ambitious vision to maximize the localization of the seed industry locally, stressing that the goal is not only to meet the needs of the local market, but rather to transform Egypt into a regional center for the production and export of high-quality seeds.
He explained that the committee’s efforts reflect the speed of achievement and the support of the private sector and investors, with a focus on bringing the latest international varieties and localizing them to reduce the import bill and increase the competitiveness of the Egyptian product in international markets, pointing out that the Ministry continues to provide all facilities to exporters and importers, while tightening supervision to ensure that the best types of seeds reach Egyptian farmers, which reflects positively on the productivity of acres and the income of farmers.
