The security services in the Luxor Security Directorate launched a strong pre-emptive strike at what are known as “election brokers,” as they were able to arrest 18 people who were involved in attempts to influence the will of voters by distributing money and advertising cards, during the first day of the run-off round of the parliamentary elections that began yesterday, Wednesday.

The fall of “political money” networks

Official statements issued by the Ministry of Interior, which were successively issued simultaneously with the progress of the electoral process, revealed careful monitoring of suspicious movements around the committees.

The Esna Police Station (south of the governorate), which is located within the third district, topped the list of those arrested with 10 people, an indication of intense competition and attempts to lure votes through illegal means.

The Esna police station was followed in terms of the number of cases by the Luxor “Al-Bayadiya” police station, with three arrests, then the Luxor “Al-Bandar” police station and the Armant police station with two accused each, and finally the Thebes police station with one accused, while the Qurna police station was completely devoid of any records related to political money.

Strict procedures and moderate involvement

These elections come in implementation of the ruling of the Supreme Administrative Court to re-hold elections in three districts in the governorate, as the National Elections Authority set December 10 and 11, 2025 for voting.

The 147 subcommittees witnessed remarkable regularity in the progress of work, with a turnout that was described as average overall, with notable intensity in some committees east of Esna.

About 922,698 voters are entitled to cast their votes in this round, which includes the first district (Bandar Luxor), the second district (Qurna and Arment), and the third district (Isna).

The security forces took immediate legal measures by issuing successive reports for the accused and referring them to the prosecution, to confirm the rule of law and ensure the integrity of the fund.
