Tweets disappear a day after they are posted

Twitter announced on Wednesday that it is testing a method that allows users to “think out loud” through tweets that disappear a day after they are posted instead of remaining visible and available for sharing.

An experiment in publishing ephemeral tweets called “Flits” began in Brazil, according to this social platform, which is based in San Francisco.

If implemented on a large scale, Twitter will join applications, most notably Snapchat and Facebook, that have taken a similar step.

The company said in a message posted on its Twitter account, “We are trying a new method that allows you to ‘think out loud’ on the platform without likes, retweets, or comments.”

She added, “It will be called ‘Flits’ and it will disappear after 24 hours.”

Kevin Beykpour, the product developer at Twitter, said that this may encourage users to share ideas that they would not otherwise express in a permanent tweet.

He continued, “This is a fundamental change for Twitter, so we are excited to start testing it.”
