The new PocketTerm35, a Raspberry Pi-based laptop, is now available and comes with a touch screen and built-in keyboard, making it an ideal choice for a wide range of different projects. This version supports multiple versions of single-board computers, as the PocketTerm35-Pi5 model is based on the Raspberry Pi 5 board, specifically the version that includes 1 GB of RAM with a pre-installed 64 GB memory card. In contrast, the PocketTerm35-Pi4 model uses a Raspberry Pi 4 board with 2GB of RAM. Instead of using a mini-computing unit, the device relies on the standard version of the computer board with its usual ports, which is clearly reflected in its external design.
More precisely, the design of the device is characterized by the presence of a noticeable protrusion behind the screen where the computer panel rests, increasing the thickness of the system in that area from 0.8 inches to approximately 1.5 inches. In exchange for this increase in thickness, users get direct access to full standard ports, including multiple USB ports and an Ethernet port for wired networking. Thanks to its built-in 5000 mAh battery, the device provides high flexibility that allows it to be used and to complete technical projects on the go with ease and without the need for a permanent power source.
The device includes a practical keyboard consisting of six separate rows that allow entering numbers directly without the need to use the functions of the secondary keys, in addition to containing arrow keys and dedicated buttons for actions. In principle, this means that the device can be used to play games, although the silicone keyboard may not provide an accurate and comfortable enough tactile response for this purpose. The device features a 3.5-inch touch screen that supports a display resolution of 640 x 480 pixels, with video output via the HDMI port and audio output via the standard 3.5 mm headphone jack, while Waveshare offers the PocketTerm35-Pi5 model for sale at a price of $149.
