Starfield, after its launch on PS5 and PS5 Pro on April 7, saw a troubled reception due to recurring technical issues that affected the gameplay experience.
Despite the great anticipation for the open-world game, a number of players reported repeated malfunctions, including sudden irritation and overheating of the device, which prompted some of them to request a refund from the PlayStation Store.
Performance reports from Digital Foundry revealed that the game suffers from clear problems on both devices, as repeated freezes occurred during testing, forcing the team to close the game and restart it manually from the system interface. In contrast, the Xbox Series
Posts on Reddit also confirmed these issues, with some players noting that the game crashes every few minutes on PS5. No clear cause has been identified yet, but some in-game planets appear to be more likely to cause crashes than others.

The problem was exacerbated on the PS5 Pro, as reports from the ResetEra forums showed that the game could sometimes cause a complete system freeze, forcing users to manually disconnect the power, with fears of save files being corrupted after a reboot. Some users also indicated that the device may overheat during space exploration, although no permanent damage has been recorded so far.
In terms of performance, Digital Foundry explained that the large number of graphics settings makes it difficult to reach a stable setting that reduces crashes, while some players suggested disabling PSSR technology in the PS5 Pro settings, but this solution did not work for everyone.
So far, Bethesda has not issued any official comment regarding these issues, which has increased players’ dissatisfaction, while some users have tried to get their money back from the PS Store with varying success due to the store’s strict policy towards such requests.
