SanDisk has announced the third edition of its portable SSD lineup, consisting of Extreme, Extreme Pro, and regular portable SSDs. The drives are available in capacities ranging from 500GB to 8TB, and they seem to perform well.

Compact SSDs are very useful tools, especially for people with high storage requirements and those who own devices with limited storage space. SanDisk is among the most well-known brands in the industry and has now unveiled its latest lineup of portable SSDs.

A total of three new products were released, with a maximum capacity of 8TB. The lineup includes the SanDisk Extreme Portable Drive, the Extreme Pro Portable Drive, and the Flash Drive. The Extreme Flash Drive will support read speeds of up to 2,000MB/s, and will be available in capacities from 1 to 4TB, with a 500GB variant planned for the near future.

The Extreme Pro portable drive, on the other hand, will be available in capacities from 2TB to 4TB, with an 8TB variant on the way later. Speeds reach 3800MB/s for writing and 4000MB/s for reading. The last product, the flash drive, is also the least expensive. Capacities range from 500GB to 2TB, and read speeds can reach 1000MB/s.

The Extreme Pro and Extreme drives come with drop protection up to 3 metres, while the flash drive is limited to 2 metres. The Extreme variants also feature IP65 dust and water resistance, while the regular portable variant does not.

All SSDs will be available in the second half of 2026. Prices are scheduled to be very high, which is expected given the ongoing supply crises. The prices for the Extreme Flash Drive are as follows, 1TB for $260, 2TB for $460, and 4TB for $920. However, details on other variants are being kept under wraps for now.

Interestingly, the Crucial X10 Pro 1TB Drive promises slightly faster transfer speeds, but is available for a much lower price of $162.34 on Amazon.
