OpenAI has announced the launch of its new Prism platform, which it describes as a free, native AI-based workspace specifically designed to help scientists and researchers write and collaborate on research projects.

The platform is based on the latest GPT-5.2 model, and allows the creation of an unlimited number of projects with the ability to add collaborators without restrictions. Prism is currently available to any user with a personal ChatGPT account, and will be released soon to Business, Enterprise, and Education plan subscribers.

Through Prism, OpenAI aims to solve one of the most common problems in academic work, which is the dispersion of tools used to write and review research papers, manage equations and references, and coordinate with the work team.

This constant switching between editors, PDF files, LaTeX compilers, reference managers, and various chat interfaces often leads to a loss of context and distraction.

In this context, Prism seeks to unify all these processes within one central environment. According to the official statement, the platform combines writing, review, collaboration, and preparation for publication within an integrated cloud space based primarily on LaTeX.

The GPT-5.2 model runs within the project itself, where it has access to the structure of the research paper, equations, references, and general context of the content. Prism is also built on top of LaTeX’s Crixet cloud platform, which OpenAI previously acquired.

Prism provides a wide range of advanced tools, allowing researchers to chat with GPT-5.2 Thinking, write and review research papers with a full understanding of the context of the document, search for and directly insert relevant studies, in addition to creating, analyzing and reorganizing equations, references and figures.

The platform also enables the conversion of whiteboard equations or diagrams directly into LaTeX format, in addition to supporting immediate collaboration with colleagues, students, and supervisors, and making modifications within the document itself. It also provides the option of audio editing to make simple changes without interrupting the process of writing or reviewing.
