Minix has unveiled a new version of its small computer called “NR660 LP”, which is a different version from the version without the “LP” suffix, with some notable concessions and a higher price, as the suggested starting price is $515.

Comparing this version to the regular version, we find that it comes with random access memory (RAM) soldered to the motherboard, and although this may seem logical in light of the constant memory shortage, it means that the memory cannot be upgraded in the future.

Memory and storage On the plus side, the device comes with 16GB of LPDDR5 memory, which is enough for most daily tasks. As for storage, Minix allows the system to be equipped with up to 8 TB of PCIe 4.0 storage via two M.2 slots, but it ships by default with a 512 GB PCIe 3.0 SSD.

Ports and connectivity One notable change is the absence of a USB4 port on the NR660 LP, which is a step down from the regular version that allowed users to connect high-speed and high-performance accessories such as external graphics cards (eGPU). However, the port lineup is still good for users who don’t need USB4, as it includes:

1x USB 2.0 Type-A port

3x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports

1x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port

2x 1G Ethernet port

1x 3.5mm audio port

Performance and specifications The NR660 LP is powered by the same AMD processor found in the regular version, specifically the AMD processor Ryzen 5 6600H With Zen 3+ architecture and integrated graphics processor Radeon 660M. Although it is a rather old processor, it is still able to smoothly handle most tasks and play light games.

Other features include compact design, WiFi 6E support, Bluetooth 5.0, and support for connecting three displays. Although the device is listed on the official store at a price of $515 (which may be a temporary price), it is not yet available for purchase. For comparison, the non-LP version is available with 16GB DDR5 memory and a 512GB disk at a price of $499.
