The Egyptian National Railway Authority is working to implement an integrated system for technical insurance, maintenance and repair within workshops Railway Main and subsidiary, within the framework of a comprehensive plan to modernize the technical infrastructure of the railway facility and raise its operational efficiency.

According to what the Authority stated on its official website, it is adopting a development plan Railway workshops On 4 main axes including:

  • Developing and rehabilitating old workshops and raising their operational capabilities.
  • Equipping workshops with the latest equipment and providing them with trained technical workers in accordance with the latest operating and maintenance standards.
  • Governance of the spare parts system and linking all workshops nationwide to a unified electronic system to ensure discipline and accurate information circulation.
  • Establishing new workshops in cooperation with major international companies to enhance the production and technological capacity of the facility.

During the last period, the Railway Authority was able to develop 33 main and subsidiary workshops so far, including the Abu Radi, Mahamasha, Farz, Taljo, and Upper Egypt workshops, within an ongoing plan that includes all regions.

The construction of 10 completely new workshops has also been completed, while an additional workshop is currently being constructed to enhance technical insurance and maintenance work, which will contribute to raising the readiness of the fleet, improving operating efficiency and reducing breakdowns, leading to safer and higher-quality service for citizens.

Human resources development plan

To keep pace with the comprehensive development of the railway sector, a comprehensive plan has been developed to raise the efficiency and development of the human element, as it is the basic pillar of the railway system. This plan is based on setting new standards and methodology for selecting the human element scheduled to join the railway sector workers through qualification and training at the Military College, the Military Technological College, and the Higher Institute of Transport Technology, in addition to implementing a plan to rehabilitate and train the current elements to raise their level of awareness to accommodate modern operating methods for the new mobile units.

445 engineers were also appointed after completing their 6-month training at the Military Academy, in addition to 1,952 technicians and train commanders being appointed after completing their 3-month training at the Military Technological College, and 86 technologists are being trained in various specializations.
