The WhatsApp platform announced anticipated changes to its terms of service, according to which it will prevent the use of any chatbot that relies on artificial intelligence from a third party other than meta.

Under this new policy, all chatbots belonging to other companies within the app will be blocked. The decision goes into effect on January 15, 2026, which is also the last date during which WhatsApp Business users will be able to run ChatGPT, Copilot, and any non-Meta AI bot within WhatsApp.

OpenAI announced its withdrawal from WhatsApp last month, and Microsoft followed suit this week by confirming that Copilot would stop working within WhatsApp.

However, WhatsApp excludes a limited segment of companies that rely on artificial intelligence robots to serve their customers, as they will still be able to operate them.

ChatGPT users on WhatsApp will be able to transfer their chat history, while Copilot users will not be able to do so.
