Lenovo, in collaboration with Motorola, announced the launch of a new artificial intelligence assistant that runs locally on devices under the name Moto AI during CES 2026 in Las Vegas on January 5, 2026. This assistant is a step to enhance privacy and speed by handling most tasks on the device itself without relying entirely on the cloud, with support for Google’s Gemini Nano model as a basis.
Moto AI is initially available on Motorola phones like the Razr 60 Ultra and Edge 60 Fusion starting Q1 2026, with plans to expand to Lenovo laptops like the Yoga and ThinkPad series. The Assistant supports tasks like summarizing calls and messages, suggesting smart replies, searching local content like photos and files, and creating simple texts or images, with an emphasis on privacy as the data stays on the device.
The assistant works with the help of the NPU built into Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite or Intel Core Ultra processors, with the option to switch to the cloud for complex tasks. Supports English initially, with plans to add other languages later.
The two companies have not announced an additional cost for the Assistant, as it comes built-in with supported devices, with free software updates. Moto AI is seen as a competitor to assistants like Google Gemini and Apple Intelligence, with a focus on privacy and local performance.
