New details have emerged about Apple’s long-awaited iPad mini 8. This information comes about a month after a Bloomberg report that discussed Apple’s plans to replace the iPad mini 7, indicating that the company will finally offer upgrades to OLED displays not only in the iPad mini but also in the large iPad Air.

A leaker on Weibo called Instant Digital confirmed that Apple will first launch the iPad mini version equipped with an OLED screen, while the Naver blogger known as yeux1122 indicated that the launch may occur during the third quarter of 2026.

On the other hand, Instant Digital indicated that there are no current developments regarding the iPad Air, which makes it unlikely that the two devices will be released at the same time.

yeux1122 added that the iPad mini 8 will get the A19 Pro chip that previously appeared in the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max. The mini’s screen size is also expected to increase from 8.3 inches in the seventh generation to 8.5 inches in the eighth generation.

However, the device’s screen will continue to support only a 60Hz refresh rate, despite Apple’s reliance on the LTPS OLED screen, which makes the viewing experience less advanced compared to even the regular iPhone 17.

In addition, Apple still has not determined whether it will adopt panels dedicated to portrait or landscape mode in the upcoming iPad mini.
