Garmin is rolling out software version 16.28 for some of its smart running watches. This stable release brings a host of new features for users, including a quick look at battery performance and more training plans. Additionally, insights have been added to the sleep overview, and there are more alert sounds to choose from.
Garmin Forerunner 570 and Forerunner 970 smartwatches are receiving a stable update. Software release 16.28 appears to mark the end of the 16.xx beta testing cycle, which began in December 2025.
Software version 16.28 brings more than ten new features to these Garmin Forerunner smart watches. There are four new “Glances”: one to track your weight, one that provides an overview of battery life and performance, one for your favorite sports teams, and one that shows how your daily habits may affect your health. Additionally, Sleep at a glance now displays the recommended bedtime and wake-up time.
Garmin has added a series of new training plans for timed workouts, cardio, and strength training. There are additional settings for color filters and audio alerts, as well as more alert sounds. Furthermore, smart notifications can now be paused even after you finish your activity, a feature controlled via the Stage menu. The update also addresses bugs related to indoor cycling, the music player, and Wi-Fi downloads.
According to a Garmin forum post, software version 16.28 is now available to about 50% of Forerunner 570 and Forerunner 970 smartwatch users (current price starts at $719.99 at Amazon). The offering is expected to be completed in the near future. To download this update, go to Main menu > System > Software update > Check for updates.
