OpenAI has announced, via an official blog post, that it has begun testing ad serving within ChatGPT for Free and Go users in the US. Ads are only visible to registered adult users, and users under 18 will not see them.

On the other hand, the company confirmed that no ads will be displayed to Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Education subscribers, and it also stressed that the ads will not in any way affect ChatGPT answers or the content of the conversations.

On the other hand, OpenAI has provided users of the free version with the option to disable ads, but this option will be offset by a reduction in the number of free messages available. Ads will appear within conversations with a clear Sponsored tag, completely separate from ChatGPT replies.

According to what the company explained, the display of ads will depend on the topics of current conversations, previous conversations, and the way the user interacts with ads.

However, advertisers will only receive ad interaction data, without sharing chat history, memories, or any personal information.

OpenAI also confirmed that ads will not be shown within conversations related to health, mental health, or politics. In addition, users will have full control over the ads displayed, including hiding certain ads, providing feedback, learning why an ad appears, deleting ad data, and customizing ad preferences.
