Rumors have been mounting in recent months about a book-style foldable iPhone, which is expected to be launched later this year, but new reports reveal that Apple is considering another, more compact design option.

According to journalist Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, the company is currently exploring the possibility of developing a foldable iPhone with a square clamshell design, similar to Flip phones, as the idea is being researched within Apple laboratories without final confirmation that it has entered the production stage.

At the same time, Gorman did not mention any additional details about the specifications or possible launch date, and he also indicated that the project is still in the study stage and may not see the light. Apple plans to first test the market by issuing a foldable iPhone with a book design, then evaluate user reactions before deciding on the clamshell version.

It is noteworthy that the idea of the foldable iPhone in the Flip style is not entirely new, as previous leaks have appeared over the past years indicating the existence of at least two prototypes within the company. Some reports even expected that Apple would launch the clamshell version before releasing the version with a writing design.
