AMD officially announced the Ryzen 7 9850X3D processor during CES 2026, which is the fastest 8-core gaming processor in the world based on AMD data.
The Ryzen 7 9850X3D comes with 8 cores and 16 threads on the Zen 5 architecture, with a boost frequency of up to 5.6 GHz (vs. 5.2 GHz on the Ryzen 7 9800X3D), 96 MB L3 cache with 3D V-Cache, and a TDP of 120 W.
According to AMD data, the Ryzen 7 9850X3D outperforms the Intel Core Ultra 9 285K by up to 27% in 35 1080p games at high settings, and outperforms the Ryzen 7 9800X3D by 3% in current and previous games, and by 6% in eSports games, with significantly higher framerates at 1080p.
The Ryzen 7 9850X3D is an improved version of the Ryzen 7 9800X3D with a higher boost frequency, making it a premium choice for professional esports and processor-based gaming players. Performance is less noticeable at higher resolutions such as 1440p or 4K, where the graphics card becomes the main obstacle.
AMD hasn’t announced the official MSRP, but leaks suggest around $500-550 USD ($511 in some stores, up from $450 for the Ryzen 7 9800X3D). Available in the first quarter of 2026.
