Basil Sammakia, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Cottonil Company, talked about the first million pounds that he was able to collect, and about how his company transformed from a small factory into a well-known brand in the underwear industry in Egypt.
He added in a meeting with the media personality Lamis Al-Hadidi, presenter of the program “The Journey of a Billion“, via Al-Nahar channel: “The first million I made was in 2003, meaning about 4 years after the factory started. Before that, Ya Dob used to wear herself, and then we started, and this is the thing that we took in terms of developing the clothing industry. When we started, everyone was wearing white in white, so I said, why don’t we make colors? This was the big jump.”
Regarding the reason for naming his company “Cottonil,” Sammakia explained: “We were naming names until we arrived at Nile Cotton, when I came to Cottonil.. Does cotton speak Egyptian? This is the slugger. I know how to make slugs, I love doing this, and I help my friends with advertisements.”
Sammakiyeh pointed out the strength of the influence of advertisements on the market: “In these advertisements, you are talking about a product on the outside that causes much more controversy. Here we are considered conservative. Do you remember the Ibn al-Jeeran advertisement? It appeared for two days and made more impact than an entire month.. You lost a lot in it? On the contrary, this one received 28 million views on social media after it stopped.”
He stressed that the secret of success lies in innovation and the ability to attract attention in a smart way: “We love to develop, we love to experiment, and this is what makes Cottonil a brand that has a presence in the mind of the consumer.”
