Dr. Mustafa Rifaat, Secretary of the Supreme Council of Universities, participated in the ceremony honoring the Goethe Institute for German language teachers, at the institute’s headquarters in Dokki under the slogan “The Man Behind the Profession,” within the framework of the cooperation agreement between the Supreme Council of Universities and the Goethe Institute within the initiative to generalize the study of the German language to students at Egyptian universities.

During his speech, he stressed that this occasion highlights the valuable contributions of German language teachers and the strong cultural partnership between Egypt and Germany, and that this year’s celebration carries a special message of appreciation for teachers as they are the basic pillar of the success of the education system, and that they have the greatest role in building bridges of cultural understanding between Egypt and Germany.
He also praised the joint cooperation between the Goethe-Institut and the Supreme Council of Universities, as this cooperation played a pivotal role in developing German language education within Egyptian universities, especially since the launch of the joint national initiative in 2019, which contributed to supporting training programs, modernizing evaluation mechanisms, and providing new opportunities for academic and cultural exchange.
He pointed out that this year’s slogan, “The Human Behind the Profession,” reminds us that education is ultimately shaped by the dedication of these teachers, their stories, and their ability to inspire. Behind every successful learner stands a committed teacher whose influence extends beyond the confines of the classroom.
At the end of the speech, he expressed his appreciation to the Goethe-Institut team, the initiative coordination committees, and all participating universities for their dedication and continued support, and congratulated all the winners and participants for their distinguished contribution to the future of language education in Egypt.
It is worth noting that the agreement concluded between the Supreme Council of Universities and the Goethe Institute in Cairo, which was signed in 2019 for a period of 3 years, and was renewed in 2022, stipulates that the institute will train German language faculty members and their assistants so that they in turn teach the German language in various Egyptian universities. The initiative includes training to obtain a DLL certificate for teaching German as a foreign language. In addition, the agreement includes obtaining partial scholarships for trainees from distinguished faculty members to conduct further studies. Linguistic studies in Germany, as well as completing language courses at the Goethe-Institut in Cairo for outstanding students, with the possibility of obtaining short scholarships to travel to Germany to attend intensive language courses.
