Major General Dr. Hisham Abu Al-Nasr, Governor, announced Assiutthe harvest of the year 2025 in the field of veterinary medicine, stressing that the governorate has witnessed a real boom and tangible achievements in this vital sector, within the framework of the state’s comprehensive plan to achieve sustainable development and in implementation of the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, and Egypt’s Vision 2030, and in full cooperation between state agencies and relevant ministries.
Achievements of the Veterinary Medicine Directorate
The Governor of Assiut explained that the year 2025 witnessed a qualitative shift in the veterinary system in the governorate, which contributes to preserving livestock, enhancing food security, and ensuring the health of both humans and animals, noting that these efforts come with the support and follow-up of Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, the Ministry of Agriculture led by Dr. Alaa Farouk, and the General Authority for Veterinary Services.
The governor indicated that he received a detailed report from the Directorate of Veterinary Medicine in Assiut, headed by Dr. Gamal Sayed, Director General of the Directorate, which included the most important achievements during the year, explaining that the field of construction and development received special attention to expand the geographical area of veterinary services and encourage investment in livestock.
The governorate witnessed the development and raising the efficiency, equipping and furnishing of 5 veterinary units in a number of centers, including the Al-Balaaza units in Abu Tig, Al-Khawalid and Al-Matmar in Sahel Selim, and Manqabad and Al-Zawiya in Assiut Center, in addition to the start of work to develop and raise the efficiency of the Artificial Insemination Administration building in the General Office of the Directorate.
Major General Dr. Hisham Abu Al-Nasr confirmed that the year 2025 witnessed intense activity in the field of preventive vaccinations, as about 892 thousand heads of livestock were vaccinated against various epidemic diseases, including foot-and-mouth disease, Rift Valley fever, peste des petits ruminants, lumpy skin, and sheep pox, in addition to vaccinations against reproductive and productive diseases, udder diseases, and newborns, in application of the principles of “One Health” to preserve On human and animal health and the environment.
Tests to detect brucellosis and tuberculosis were also conducted for about 10,000 animals, and the necessary preventive measures were taken, reflecting the seriousness in controlling common diseases and protecting livestock.
The governor explained that the Veterinary Medicine Directorate intensified its efforts in the field of care and treatment, as more than 103,000 heads of livestock benefited from veterinary services during the year 2025, and thousands of animals and poultry were treated, in addition to organizing 19 free veterinary convoys that provided comprehensive services, including detection, treatment, vaccination, workshops, and group treatment, especially in the villages and areas most in need.
The Governor of Assiut added that poultry wealth received the same amount of attention, as more than 2.3 million birds were vaccinated against various epidemic diseases, most notably bird and Newcastle flu, with the implementation of comprehensive field investigation campaigns that resulted in covering hundreds of thousands of homes to ensure that the service reaches all parts of the governorate.
The governor pointed to the governorate’s efforts to vaccinate stray animals, especially dogs and cats, against rabies, through organized field campaigns, which included registering free-range dogs, vaccinating them, and conducting sterilization operations according to scientific principles, which contributes to reducing health risks and protecting citizens.
Major General Dr. Hisham Abu Al-Nasr confirmed that the Veterinary Medicine Directorate has intensified its monitoring campaigns on slaughterhouses, meat markets and products of animal origin, and activated the judicial police, to control violations and ensure food safety, as the campaigns resulted in the seizure of large quantities of unfit meat, and the examination of hundreds of tons of municipal and imported meat, poultry and fish, in order to preserve the health of citizens.
The governor explained that the awareness and training aspect received great attention, as thousands of guidance seminars and workshops were organized for educators, citizens and school students, in addition to implementing specialized training programs for veterinarians in the fields of artificial insemination and early diagnosis using ultrasound, in addition to supporting the directorate with modern diagnostic devices.
