Nearly 5,000 citizens from the governorates of Luxor and Qena gathered in Sheikh Tayeb Al-Hassani Square in the Qurna region, west of Luxor, to witness the largest reconciliation ceremony to end a 6-year-long revenge dispute between cousins from the “Al Obaid” family, in a solemn scene that embodies the values of tolerance in Upper Egypt.

This came in the presence and patronage of Sheikh Ahmed Muhammad Muhammad Ahmed Al-Tayeb, son of the brother of His Eminence the Grand Imam, Sheikh of Al-Azhar, and deputy pioneer of the arena.
An impressive speech and cheers for the Al-Tayeb family
His Eminence Sheikh Ahmed Muhammad Al-Tayeb captured the hearts of those present with an influential speech, in which he focused on the virtue of forgiveness when able and the rejection of discord, citing the Almighty’s saying: “So whoever pardons and makes amends, his reward is with Allah.”
As soon as His Eminence finished his speech, the square erupted with the cheers of thousands, calling for His Eminence, the Grand Imam, Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, and their honorable family, that God protect them as an asset to the country and the people, in appreciation of their historical role in stopping bloodshed.
Raising the curtain on the “Al Obaid” dispute
These efforts culminated in ending the rivalry between the two parties to the conflict (Ahmed Ali Obaid) and (Kamal Ali Obaid) from the village of Naga Bishlaw in the Naqada center, which broke out due to a dispute over a piece of land.
The reconciliation ceremony took place in the presence of the leaders of the Supreme Committee for Reconciliation in Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, church leaders, and security leaders, so that the two parties turned the page on the past, amidst the acclamations of the attendees and overwhelming joy that spread throughout everyone.
This reconciliation is one of the largest gatherings that Sheikh El-Tayeb Square has witnessed recently, which reflects the great confidence that the people of Upper Egypt have in the Al-Azhar Foundation and its symbols in ending revenge disputes and consolidating the foundations of stability in Luxor Governorate and Qena Governorate.
