The National Tunnels Authority, affiliated with the Ministry of Transport, announced the start of implementation procedures for a new metro station under the name “Sheikh Mansour”. The first line of the Cairo MetroThis is within the framework of a plan to develop and raise the efficiency of the line, which is crowded daily with hundreds of thousands of passengers.
The authority confirmed in a publication on its official website that: New metro station It will be built midway between Ezbet El Nakhl and Al Marj stations, which are two of the busiest stations on the first line, with the aim of relieving the increasing pressure on the two stations, especially Ezbet El Nakhl station, which exceeds its capacity during peak hours.

The National Tunnels Authority explained that the project aims to improve traffic flow, reduce waiting time, and reduce crowding inside stations and trains, which contributes to raising the level of service provided to passengers and achieving greater streamlined operation of the first line, which represents the backbone of the metro network.
The Authority indicated that a decision was issued by the Prime Minister on June 15, 2025 to grant the status of public benefit to the station construction project, in a step that paves the way for accelerating the implementation of construction works. An assessment of the project’s work has already been prepared, and preparations are currently underway to officially present it to specialized companies in preparation for the start of implementation.

The authority added that the addition of the Sheikh Mansour station comes as part of an integrated modernization program First line It includes developing signaling and communications systems and modernizing trains, ensuring increased safety rates, reducing malfunctions, and improving the quality of service provided to citizens.
She also confirmed that the new project contributes to supporting the state’s plan to expand advanced mass transportation networks and encourage citizens to use environmentally friendly public transportation, in light of the national trend to reduce emissions and improve air quality in Greater Cairo.
