In recent years, Russia has witnessed a noticeable increase in the demand for magic and sorcery, especially with the continuation of the war Ukraine The increasing economic and living pressures have prompted many to search for ways to give them a sense of security or reassurance.
Russians resort to magic and sorcery in search of reassurance
In this context, Reuters revealed the growing phenomenon of some Russian soldiers resorting to those who describe themselves as magicians or spiritual healers, seeking protection or solving personal and emotional problems.
Among these figures, Natalia Malinovskaya emerged, saying that she receives frequent calls from soldiers fighting in eastern Ukraine, especially those who are concerned about their romantic relationships or fear being harmed.
Malinovskaya, who appears frequently in the Russian media, offers various services that include love spells, protection from evil, and rituals based on candles and energy, confirming that some soldiers ask for her help during periods of leave, because carrying out these rituals on the front is almost impossible.
According to a survey conducted by the VTsIOM Center, 85% of Russians practiced some type of practice related to magic or mysticism, and the percentage of those who believe in the ability of some people to predict the future or possess supernatural powers has increased compared to what it was years ago.
The center believes that the current geopolitical and economic crises, in addition to the ongoing war, have contributed to increasing levels of anxiety among citizens, making belief in the supernatural or spiritual practices a means of psychological defense for some.
Consumer spending data in Russia also showed a significant increase in demand for crystal balls, protective amulets, incense, and even tools related to exorcising evil spirits, which was reflected in the activity of stores specialized in selling these products within Moscow.
On the other hand, this phenomenon faces strong opposition from the Russian Orthodox Church, which described the acts of divination and predicting the future as a satanic force, warning of its impact on society.
