Sherif Fathi, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, held a series of media meetings with the most prominent American press organizations specialized in tourism and travel, during his current visit to the United States of America, within the framework of strengthening Egypt’s presence in one of the fastest growing markets that is most interested in the Egyptian tourism product, especially cultural and adventure tourism.

During the meetings, which took place on the sidelines of his participation in the annual conference of the American Tour Operators Association (USTOA) in the state of Maryland, the Minister confirmed that the number of tourists arriving to Egypt increased by 20% this year, aiming to reach about 19 million tourists by the end of 2025. He pointed to the increase in the number of American tourists to reach 520 thousand tourists, which reflects the growing confidence in the Egyptian tourist destination, the level of security and distinguished hotel services.

The Minister also reviewed the features of the Ministry’s strategy to shed light on the diversity of Egyptian tourism, including cultural, adventure, environmental, spiritual, beach tourism, and long Nile cruises. He explained that American tourists find in Egypt unique experiences that extend from climbing St. Catherine’s Mountains and diving in the Red Sea to visiting natural reserves and the White and Black Desert, with the possibility of staying on board the Goldies and Nile cruises extending between Cairo, Luxor, and Aswan.

The Minister referred to the tourism developments in the city of St. Catherine and the Great Transfiguration Project, including the development of infrastructure and new hotels and the provision of distinctive tourism products such as meditation tourism and bird watching, pointing to the increasing demand from the American market for these experiences.

Sherif Fathi stressed that sustainability has become a fundamental focus of the ministry’s strategy, noting that 46.5% of hotel establishments have applied sustainability standards, with the expansion of the use of clean and renewable energy.

The Grand Egyptian Museum was at the forefront of the media meetings, as the minister confirmed that it provides a unique experience for visitors from entering the large foyer to the various halls, and includes the complete collection of King Tutankhamun for the first time in history, in addition to a children’s museum and a center for research and studies, making it an integrated cultural institution.

The Minister of Tourism also reviewed the development work at the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir, and the ongoing projects in the North Coast, Siwa, and Alexandria, in addition to joint multi-destination tourism programs that include Egypt and other Mediterranean countries, to meet the interests of American, Japanese, and Chinese tourists.
