Dr. Sherif Farouk, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, held an expanded meeting with the General Federation of Chambers of Commerce, with the participation of the leadership of the Ministry and the Federation, the heads of the chambers of commerce in the governorates, the Chamber of Food Industries, major producers and suppliers, and representatives of commercial chains, within the framework of the directives of the political leadership to strengthen the food security system and early preparation for the holy month of Ramadan, in a way that ensures the availability of basic commodities and the stability of markets.

The Minister began the meeting by emphasizing that the state gives the issue of providing strategic goods a top priority, pointing to the continuous monitoring of the general position of the strategic reserve and availability rates, whether through government stock or in cooperation and integration with the private sector, to ensure the presence of a safe stock and reassuring sufficient supplies that meet the needs of citizens without any obstacles.

Dr. Sherif Farouk directed to increase the rates of pumping basic commodities, free goods, and Ramadan yams into the markets, while expanding outlets and exhibitions, and ensuring the availability of products in all branches of commercial chains and “Ahlan Ramadan” showrooms and shops nationwide, which contributes to achieving a balance between supply and demand and reducing any monopolistic practices.

The Minister stressed the importance of tight coordination with the governors and chambers of commerce in the governorates, with a clear definition of roles and responsibilities, to ensure the speedy establishment of exhibitions and the regularity of their operation with the required efficiency, in a way that supports the state’s efforts to reduce the living burdens on citizens.

He stressed the strategic role of the private sector as a major partner in the system of providing goods, calling on manufacturers, producers and suppliers to provide real and tangible discounts on basic goods, which is directly reflected in the final prices and enhances the purchasing power of citizens, especially during seasons with high consumer density.

The meeting discussed the executive arrangements for holding the main “Welcome Ramadan” exhibitions in all governorates, in addition to expanding the establishment of fixed corners for the exhibition within the branches of commercial chains with the same levels of prices and discounts, in order to achieve the maximum degree of geographical availability of goods.

The Minister also directed the necessity of adhering to the highest standards of organization within exhibitions and exhibitions, by ensuring the availability of basic facilities and services, continuing cleaning work, and organizing the movement of citizens in proportion to the size of the expected turnout, as well as the optimal application of civil defense requirements and safety and fire protection procedures, in order to provide a safe and controlled shopping environment.

Dr. Sherif Farouk stressed the importance of sustaining the work of the “Welcome Ramadan” exhibitions for the longest possible period according to the demand rates in each governorate, with the immediate replacement of goods and not allowing any shortage to occur, in a way that enhances the stability of the markets and establishes a state of discipline in the commodity trading system.

For their part, representatives of the General Federation of Chambers of Commerce, major producers and suppliers, and representatives of commercial chains announced their commitment not to move prices, and to work to stabilize and even reduce them, in a way that enhances market stability during the month of Ramadan. They also confirmed the readiness of the main exhibition “Ahlan Ramadan” in Cairo and Giza to open starting next week, in a step that reflects the integration of efforts between the government and the private sector to ensure the abundance of goods and make them available to citizens at reasonable prices.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Minister confirmed that the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade is continuing to implement a comprehensive plan to control markets, enhance strategic stocks, and expand commodity initiatives and exhibitions, in a way that ensures the provision of goods to citizens with appropriate quality and fair prices, and reflects the state’s ability to manage the food security file efficiently and professionally.

The meeting witnessed the presence of Major General Walid Abu Al-Majd, Deputy Minister, along with the leaders of the General Federation of Chambers of Commerce, led by Engineer Hani Mahmoud, First Vice President of the Federation, Representative Amr Abu Al-Oyoun, Second Vice-President of the Federation and President of the Assiut Chamber, Engineer Ashraf El-Gazairly, President of the Food Industries Chamber, Dr. Alaa Ezz, Secretary-General of the International Chamber of Commerce and Advisor to the President of the Federation, Representative Dr. Mohamed Al-Fayoumi, Treasurer and President of the Qalyubia Chamber, and Professor Akram Al-Shafi’i, Assistant Treasurer and President of the Chamber. Ismailia, Dr. Karam Kurdi, member of the Board of Directors, as well as the heads of the chambers of commerce in the governorates, major producers and suppliers, and representatives of commercial chains.
