India bans more than 100 Chinese apps, in addition to the popular game PUBG, due to cybersecurity concerns as geopolitical tensions escalate on the disputed border between the two neighboring countries.
Yesterday, Wednesday, India’s IT Ministry ordered a ban on 118 apps that it said were “prejudicial to the sovereignty and integrity of India, defense of India, security of state and public order.”
The move will help “protect the interests of tens of millions of mobile and internet users in India,” the ministry said. This decision is a targeted step to ensure the safety, security and sovereignty of Indian cyberspace.
The move comes months after New Delhi banned 59 Chinese apps, including TikTok, which considered India its largest international market.
Regarding the famous game PUBG – which was published and distributed in India by the Chinese giant Tencent – it is by far the most popular title among the newly banned applications.
It had more than 40 million monthly active users in July in India, according to one of the top research companies.
According to research firm Sensor Tower, India accounts for more than a quarter of PUBG downloads and installs.
