Dr. Mahmoud Esmat Wazir testified electricity And renewable energy, and Dr. Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, Jordanian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, the signing ceremony of the electrical energy exchange contract for the year 2026, between the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company and the National Electricity Company of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and it was signed on behalf of Egypt by Engineer Mona Rizk, President of the company, and on the Jordanian side, by Dr. Sufyan Al-Batayneh, Director General of the company, within the framework of cooperation and partnership between the two brotherly countries.
The renewal of the contract comes within the framework of the memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy in the Arab Republic of Egypt, and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, which specified the general framework for supplying the Jordanian side with quantities of electrical energy, in order to activate the benefit of investments in the electrical interconnection network between the two countries to the maximum possible degree for the benefit of both parties, which comes as confirmation of the continuation of joint cooperation, in light of the state’s orientation and energy strategy, the program to diversify energy sources and expand renewable energy projects, transform Egypt into a regional center for energy exchange, and approve electrical interconnection projects. As a mainstay of unified network stability.
Economic benefits for countries and parties concerned
Dr. Mahmoud Esmat confirmed that there is a strategic direction to support and enhance electrical interconnection projects and integration with the networks of neighboring countries, explaining the importance of interconnection and electrical energy exchange in supporting the energy mix, especially renewable energies, which will bring economic benefits to the countries and parties concerned, stressing the interest of the political leadership in electrical interconnection projects, as Egypt actively participates in all regional electrical interconnection projects.
He pointed out that renewing the electrical energy exchange contract with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan will reflect on the stability and increase in the reliability of the electrical supply between the two countries, in addition to the size of the economic and development returns.
Promoting electrical connectivity projects
He explained that the total amount of energy transferred to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan during the current year amounted to 306,078,000 kWh, with a total value of $28,258,461.35, adding that there is strong work in the direction of strengthening electrical interconnection projects, including the interconnection project with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the first phase of which has been completed with a capacity of 1,500 megawatts, and the second phase with a capacity of 1,500 megawatts will end during the first quarter of next year, as well as electrical interconnection projects. With Greece and Italy to export renewable energies, stressing the continuation of work to enhance energy security, increase the use of renewable energy, and support electrical interconnection projects between countries to create an atmosphere of cooperation and dialogue and the existence of common economic interests.
For his part, Dr. Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, Jordanian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, emphasized the partnership and cooperation relations between the two countries and the brotherhood between the two brotherly peoples, pointing to cooperation in the fields of energy, which is a model for cooperation between countries, explaining the continuation of cooperation to raise the capacity of the electrical interconnection line between Egypt and Jordan to reach 2000 megawatts, within the framework of serving the Arab electrical interconnection project and energy exchange between Arab countries.
