Major General Tariq Marzouk, Governor of Dakahlia, announced the start of the harvest season and the readiness of 36 sites to receive wheat, as part of an integrated plan aimed at securing the receipt of the local wheat crop, in a way that enhances the state’s efforts in supporting food security and ensuring the regularity of the supply system. This comes in coordination with Dr. Sherif Farouk, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, and the follow-up of accountant Ali Hassan, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Supply.

The governor explained that the supply season officially began this morning, April 15, 2026, with the formation of specialized committees in all locations to follow up on receiving operations and ensure compliance with the specified controls and standards, while providing all facilities to farmers to facilitate supply procedures.

For his part, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Supply confirmed the completion of the preparation of 36 approved storage sites to receive local wheat at the governorate level, including modern silos, upgraded sheds and hangars, belonging to a number of marketing entities, including the Holding Company for Food Industries, milling companies, the Egyptian Agricultural Bank, the Egyptian Future Authority, and the Egyptian Holding Company for Silos and Storage.

The total storage capacity is about 290,870 tons, distributed among 36 storage locations, ensuring that the quantities expected to be supplied during the season are accommodated without any overcrowding.

Regarding production, the directorate explained that the area planted with wheat this year amounted to 236,940 acres, with an expected average productivity of 1.2 tons per acre, bringing the total target to be supplied to about 284,328 tons of local wheat during the 2026 season.

Wheat supply prices were also approved according to degrees of purity, in order to achieve a fair return for farmers and encourage them to supply, and were as follows:

• 1,500 pounds for ardeb (purity 23.5 carats)
• 1450 pounds for ardeb (23 carat purity)
• 1,400 pounds for ardeb (purity 22.5 carats)

The Supply Directorate calls on Dakahlia farmers to quickly go to the approved receiving sites to supply the wheat crop, stressing that the state attaches great importance to supporting farmers and providing a fair price for their crops, and that supply represents a national duty and a fundamental focus in strengthening the food security system.
