This morning, Dr. Mohamed Hani Ghoneim, Governor of Beni Suef, continued his field tours to follow up on the measures that were implemented against the backdrop of the drinking water service being affected yesterday, as a result of the temporary suspension of some water stations, after an oil spill was detected in the course of the Western Nile River and the water company took precautionary measures immediately.

During his tour, the governor reassured the readiness of the technical and operational system for drinking water stations, directing them to raise the level of readiness and intensify monitoring and close follow-up of any abnormal movements within the waterway, while emphasizing the importance of full coordination between the various concerned parties to deal immediately with any emergency.

For her part, Engineer Dina Omar, Managing Director and President of the Beni Suef Drinking Water and Wastewater Company, confirmed that all stations were operated this morning at full production capacity, after ensuring their safety and not being affected, explaining that the service is currently operating regularly with continued precautionary measures to ensure water quality.

During his tour, the governor assigned the head of the water company, the director of the environmental department, the mayor of the city, and all relevant parties, to continuous field follow-up around the clock, and to submit periodic reports on developments in the situation, while emphasizing continued coordination between the water company, the environment department, and the relevant agencies.

The governor indicated that he was present in the field yesterday, accompanied by a number of security and executive leaders, to follow up on the procedures that were implemented from the beginning of monitoring the spot until the stations were restarted.

He had directed the formation of a joint committee that includes the Surface Police, the Environment Department and the Water Company, to carry out comprehensive examination and survey of the waterway, track the path of the spill and determine its source, and take legal measures if any violations are proven, while preparing an urgent technical report that includes the results and recommendations to prevent the incident from recurring.

The Governor of Beni Suef stressed that the security and safety of drinking water is a red line that cannot be tolerated, stressing that the emergency system will continue to work around the clock until the situation is fully confirmed and the service is regular, without any comments.
