The Center for Astronomical and Geophysical Research announced that astronomical calculations conducted by the Center’s experts revealed that the crescent of the month of Rajab for the Hijri year 1447 is born immediately after the conjunction occurs at three hours and 45 minutes before dawn local Cairo time, on Saturday 29 Jumada al-Akhirah 1447 AH, corresponding to December 20, 2025, which is the day of legal sighting.

Sunday, December 21, the first of Rajab 1447

The center explained, in a statement, that the new crescent stays in the sky of Mecca for 14 minutes after sunset on the day of sighting, while it remains in the sky of Cairo for 10 minutes, pointing out that the crescent’s stay period in the rest of the governorates of the Republic ranges between 8 and 14 minutes.

The statement added that the crescent appears in Arab and Islamic capitals and cities after sunset, between one minute and 26 minutes, with the exception of the city of Ankara in Turkey, where the crescent sets simultaneously with sunset, which prevents the possibility of observing it.

The Center confirmed that the results of astronomical calculations indicate that the beginning of the month of Rajab 1447 AH will be astronomically on Sunday, corresponding to December 21, 2025, calling for adherence to the official announcement issued by the competent legal authorities regarding the confirmation of the sighting of the crescent.
