Spotify said in a statement that prices are reviewed periodically to reflect the value provided by the platform, and to continue providing the best possible experience to users, in addition to supporting artists, according to a report published by Engadget, a website specialized in technology news.
Under the new increase, the price of an individual subscription will reach $13 per month instead of $12, while the student subscription will rise to $7 compared to $6 previously. The price of the “Duo” package will also rise to $19 per month instead of $17, while the cost of the “Family” package will reach about $22, an increase of $2 from its previous price of $20.
Spotify had previously announced that it would pay about $10 billion to music rights holders during the year 2024, but these numbers did not prevent escalating criticism from some songwriters, as a number of Grammy Award nominees boycotted a ceremony organized by the company, in protest against what they described as a decline in financial returns from operating their works through the platform.
