Dr. Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, received Hagos Gebrehiot Economic Advisor to the Eritrean Presidentand Nasr al-Din Saleh, the Eritrean Minister of Trade and Industry, to discuss ways to support joint cooperation and transfer Egyptian expertise in the fields of clean energy and technical training.
Ismat confirmed that there are presidential assignments to strengthen cooperation with our brothers in Africa, indicating the Ministry’s readiness to provide all forms of technical support to the State of Eritrea. The Minister reviewed the national energy strategy, which aims to raise the percentage of renewable energies in the Egyptian energy mix to 45% by 2028.
Solar plants and intensive training courses
The meeting discussed the executive position of establishing two solar energy plants to provide electricity to several regions in Eritrea. It was also agreed to organize 5 specialized training courses during the coming months of May and June in cooperation with the Egyptian Agency for Partnership for Development, to qualify Eritrean cadres in the technical and administrative fields.
The Eritrean delegation praised the great expertise possessed by the Egyptian electricity sector, stressing that the completion of solar station projects will reflect positively on the development of educational and health infrastructure, and advance economic and commercial activities in the country, which will strengthen the strategic relations between the two countries.
