Restoration and periodic maintenance work begins at the ancient tombs of Mir in Assiut

The sources confirmed that the work includes implementing specialized restoration programs and periodic maintenance of architectural elements and archaeological inscriptions, according to the latest scientific methods approved in the field of antiquities preservation, which contributes to protecting the tombs from factors of damage, prolonging their lifespan, and preserving the artistic and architectural features of the site.

The ancient tombs of Mir are considered one of the most important funerary sites in Upper Egypt, as they date back to the era of the Old Kingdom and the beginnings of the Middle Kingdom, and include the tombs of the rulers of the Al-Qusiyah region. They are distinguished by their walls carved into the rock and the prominent scenes and inscriptions they contain that record precise details of daily life, economic and religious activities in ancient Egypt.

The views of Mir’s tombs reflect the development of funerary art and sculpture styles during this period. They also represent an important historical record that sheds light on the regional administration system and the role of regional rulers in that era, which gives the site exceptional archaeological and historical value.

The restoration and maintenance work comes within the framework of a comprehensive plan to preserve heritage sites in Assiut Governorate, and to ensure the transfer of this cultural heritage to future generations, while preparing it for an appropriate cultural display that highlights its position on the cultural tourism map.
