Representative Alaa Abdel Nabi, Undersecretary of the Senate Agriculture and Irrigation Committee, stated that what Dr. Hani Saried El-Din announced during a press conference at the Wafd Party, regarding the Finance, Economic and Investment Committee taking over about 52% of the work of the Senate during the first legislative session, is correct and reveals a clear flaw in the Council’s work mechanism.

Abdel Nabi explained that this reality imposes the necessity of reviewing the powers of the Senate, whether through a constitutional amendment or restructuring the specific committees, noting that concentrating more than half of the Senate’s work in one committee reflects legislative and organizational shortcomings.

A Senate representative calls for a constitutional amendment and the expansion of specific committees: One committee occupied 52% of the Council’s work

He demanded Undersecretary of the Agriculture and Irrigation Committee amending Article (38)From the internal regulations of the Senate, to increase the number of specific committees from 14 to 21, similar to the House of Representatives, with the addition of a specialized committee for investment due to its extreme importance at the current stage.
He also stressed the importance of making the meetings of specific committees public, allowing citizens and concerned parties to follow their work, and ensuring transparency and non-repetition of what happened in the previous session.

At the conclusion of his statements, Representative Alaa Abdel Nabi sent a call to President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, to direct the concerned authorities to study and investigate these observations, and to take the necessary urgent legislative and regulatory measures to develop the performance of the Senate and enhance its constitutional role.
