Dr. Hassan Al-Noamani, President of Sohag University, opened the modern nuclear medicine unit, which is one of the specialized units that plays a vital role in targeted treatment and early diagnosis of incurable diseases. The unit provides accurate diagnostic and therapeutic services for cancer, neurological and cardiac diseases.

The unit includes medical devices that provide chemotherapy and radiation therapy at the same time, in addition to its important role in training and educating students in modern nuclear medicine techniques.

Nuclear Medicine Unit at Sohag University

During his inspection of the unit, Al-Nomani extended his sincere thanks and appreciation to the political leadership for its full support for the university hospital file, and for placing it on the map of comprehensive development to serve patients and accommodate the increasing numbers of visitors from various governorates in general, and the governorates of Upper Egypt in particular.

He stressed that the opening of the Nuclear Medicine Unit is a strong and important addition to the Oncology Department, which has been equipped at the highest level. It is the unit responsible for diagnosing and treating body tumors using radioactive isotopes. The new high-resolution gamma camera device was added, which is one of the latest gamma camera devices in Upper Egypt and is used in imaging and diagnosing various body tumors at a cost of 20 million pounds.

Dr. Magdy Al-Qadi, Dean of the College, said that the device is also used in diagnosing diseases other than tumors, such as atomic scanning of the kidneys, heart, thyroid and parathyroid glands, and a hot lab is attached to the device to prepare radioactive materials such as tachynetium and radioactive day.

Dr. Ahmed Kamal, Executive Director of University Hospitals, added that the university president also inspected the room attached to the device and designated for atomic scanning of the heart with effort, as well as the hot laboratory in which materials and radioactive isotopes are prepared, and the room for injecting patients with radioactive materials.

Dr. Al-Sayed Mustafa, Head of the Oncology Department, explained that the Oncology Department receives large numbers of patients on a daily basis, and the cases are evaluated by doctors and the diseases are diagnosed to determine the appropriate treatment plan for them, and give chemotherapy doses to the patients, adding that the unit provides its therapeutic and diagnostic services to all patients in the governorate, and is keen to be an ideal model for providing integrated health services to preserve the health of patients.

The opening was attended by Dr. Hussein Taha, Vice President of the University for Education and Student Affairs, Dr. Magdy Al-Qadi, Dean of the College of Medicine, Dr. Mohamed Nasr, Vice President of the College for Education and Student Affairs, Dr. Ahmed Kamal, Executive Director of University Hospitals, and Dr. Sayed Mustafa, Head of the Oncology Department, at the old hospital headquarters.
