The Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported, citing informed sources, that Israeli occupation Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will not attend the launch ceremony of the Peace Council, scheduled to be organized on Thursday on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum held in the Davos resort in Switzerland.
Netanyahu’s decision, according to what the sources revealed, came after Switzerland announced that it was obligated to cooperate with the arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court against Netanyahu.
Netanyahu’s arrest
The newspaper reported that Netanyahu’s decision came after the Swiss authorities confirmed their legal commitment to implement arrest warrants issued by the International Criminal Court, in the event that wanted persons enter Swiss territory.
Haaretz quoted the Federal Office of Justice in Switzerland as saying: As a party to the Rome Statute, Switzerland is obligated to cooperate with the International Criminal Court.
The office added that, in principle, Switzerland must arrest the accused if they enter Switzerland at this time, provided that the International Criminal Court has issued an arrest warrant against them, and initiate procedures for their extradition to the court, explaining that the obligation includes any official request issued by the International Criminal Court in accordance with the applicable legal frameworks.
According to the newspaper, the arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court against Netanyahu states that he is responsible for war crimes, including starvation as a method of war, and directing deliberate attacks against the civilian population in the Gaza Strip, in addition to crimes against humanity that include murder, persecution, and other inhumane acts.
The Peace Council for the Gaza Strip
Yesterday, Tuesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accepted the invitation of US President Donald Trump to join as a member of the peace council for the Gaza Strip, which will consist of world leaders.
The Israeli Prime Minister’s Office announced, in a statement, that Netanyahu accepted the invitation he received from US President Donald Trump to join as a member of the peace council for the Gaza Strip.
In the same context, an Israeli official told CNN last Monday that US President Donald Trump invited Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to join the US-led “Peace Council” in the Gaza Strip as a founding member.
