Confirm Diaa Al-SayedThe former Egyptian national team coach said that the national team did not succeed in achieving the primary goal during the African Cup of Nations, which was to qualify for the final match and compete for the title, noting that the exit against Senegal reflects a clear technical failure.
Diaa Al-Sayed
Diaa El-Sayed said, in statements on the “Number One” program presented by journalist Mohamed Shabana on the CBC channel, that the Moroccan fans during the match between Egypt and Senegal were not encouraging the Egyptian team, explaining that the Pharaohs’ performance in the match was not at the required level.
He added that the Egyptian national team failed by not qualifying for the final, stressing that the ambitions were always to reach the final match, but the performance against Senegal was bad, especially on the offensive level.
Diaa explained that the Egyptian team’s first real attempt against Senegal came in the 95th minute, which reflects the excessive caution shown by the players throughout the match, at the expense of offensive effectiveness.
He pointed out that the performance in the Côte d’Ivoire match was completely different, as the team succeeded in organizing well defensively, implementing offensive transitions in a distinctive way and scoring goals. However, this was not repeated against Senegal, which studied the previous confrontation with Egypt well, and closed all the spaces, which made the Pharaohs lose the ability to execute transitions with the same efficiency.
Diaa El-Sayed concluded his statements by emphasizing that Mohamed El-Shenawy does not bear responsibility for Senegal’s goal, explaining that the ball came very quickly and the goalkeeper was not able to see it, after it passed between Hossam Abdel Majeed’s feet before reaching the net.
