It was built in the classic Ottoman style and can accommodate more than 3,000 worshipers. Thus, Al-Sahaba Mosque stands out as a unique architectural icon in the heart of Sharm El-Sheikh.

The City of Peace is full of a number of mosques with a distinctive architectural character, and the Companions Mosque is at the forefront of them, as it includes the second highest minarets in Egypt, with a height of up to 76 meters for each minaret. It was designed and built by the late engineer Fouad Tawfiq, who donated his entire salary for the designs and supervision of implementation.

The foundation stone for the mosque was laid on January 10, 2011, and work on it continued for about six years, until it was officially opened on March 24, 2017, coinciding with the National Day celebrations of the South Sinai Governorate, in the presence of Major General Khaled Fouda, the governor of South Sinai at the time, and Dr. Mohamed Mukhtar Gomaa, the former Minister of Endowments, along with a number of ministers and leaders of the governorate, in a major celebration that reflected the importance of the event.

The mosque was built through the efforts of the Al-Sahaba Association in the commercial market in Sharm El-Sheikh, on a total area of 3,003 square meters, and can accommodate more than 3,000 worshipers, while its main courtyard accommodates about 800 worshipers on an area of 1,800 square meters, with an internal height of 36 metres. It is distinguished by a number of decorated domes that give it a unique aesthetic character, making it one of the most prominent religious and tourist attractions in the city.

The mosque also includes an Islamic cultural center and a library containing introductory publications about Islam in several languages, in addition to assigning two English- and French-speaking imams to respond to the inquiries of foreign visitors, which reflects its role in spreading moderate thought and introducing the tolerance of Islam.

A number of foreign tourists expressed their happiness at visiting the mosque, praising the splendor of its architectural design and the safe and stable atmosphere enjoyed by the city of Sharm El-Sheikh, stressing that the mosque has become a shining sign that reflects the cultural and touristic face of the governorate.
