5 teams guarantee qualification to the 2029 Club World Cup
The Brazilian team Flamengo qualified for the 2029 Club World Cup, after winning the Libertadores Cup in the early hours of Sunday morning, after defeating its compatriot Palmeiras in the final match with an unanswered goal.
Flamengo has become the fifth qualifier for the 2029 World Cup, after Pyramids, the African Champions League champion, Paris Saint-Germain, the European champion, Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ahly Jeddah, the Asian Champions League champion, and Mexico’s Cruz Azul, the CONCACAF champion, out of 32 teams.
The International Federation of Association Football, FIFA, decided to change the system of the Club World Cup since the last edition, so that it would be held every 4 years similar to the World Cup for teams, with the participation of 32 teams. It was held for the first time last summer in America, and the Chelsea team succeeded in winning the title at the expense of the French club Paris Saint-Germain.
The next four years are scheduled to witness the rest of the qualifiers, whether continental champions or qualifiers based on the classification of each continental confederation, as the European continent has 12 seats in the World Cup, while South America got 6 seats, compared to 4 seats each for Africa, Asia, CONCACAF, and a single seat for Oceania.
It is noteworthy that Al-Ahly club participated in the first edition of the Club World Cup, with its new system, as the holder of the 2024 CAF Champions League title, as it was content to participate in the group stage after finishing bottom of the group standings.
