The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs said that it is following up on the sinking of an illegal immigration boat headed from one of the neighboring countries to Greece on December 7, with 34 illegal immigrants of different nationalities on board, including 14 Egyptian citizens who died.

The Foreign Ministry explained in a statement that immediately upon receiving information about the sinking of the boat, Dr. Badr Abdel Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Egyptian Affairs Abroad, assigned the Egyptian Embassy in Greece to quickly communicate at the highest level with the Greek authorities to provide possible assistance to those rescued from the boat, as well as quickly shipping the bodies of the deceased whose bodies were recovered after completing the legal procedures, as the Egyptian Embassy in Athens communicated with the families of the deceased to arrange the transportation of the bodies to the homeland.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptian Expatriate Affairs reiterates its appeals to citizens not to be drawn into illegal immigration gangs in order to preserve the lives of citizens, as well as to follow legal methods related to entry into foreign countries through legal entry visas to avoid the recurrence of such unfortunate incidents.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptian Affairs Abroad extended its sincere condolences to the families of the deceased who died during this painful accident.
