Minister directed External Abbas Araghchi headed to the Omani capital, Muscat, at the head of a diplomatic delegation, to conduct nuclear negotiations with the United States.

In a statement, the Iranian Foreign Ministry stressed the need not to miss any opportunity to use the diplomatic track in a way that serves Iran’s interests and contributes to strengthening peace and stability in the region, stressing that dialogue remains the best option to address controversial issues.

Tehran expressed its hope that the American side would participate in these negotiations in a responsible, realistic and serious manner, allowing for tangible progress in the issues at hand and building mutual understandings.

Earlier, informed sources reported to the American website Axios that Iran had demanded changes to the location and form of the upcoming negotiations with the United States, scheduled to be held tomorrow, Friday.

Talks between Washington and Tehran

The sources told Axios that Tehran backed away from the understandings reached during the past few days, after sending invitations to several countries to participate in the talks, as it demanded that they be moved from Istanbul to the Sultanate of Oman, and that they be held in a bilateral format with the United States only, instead of the presence of Arab and Islamic countries as observers.
